Pricing that stays out of the way
Bring your own repo and pay nothing, or $5/month if you want us to run the memory layer for you. Your provider bills you directly for model usage — we never mark it up.
- Any model, any tool, zero setup
- Hosted Adherence Engine (compiler, gates, verifier)
- Skills network across projects
- Fusion + Tandem
- Unlimited projects
The split is real, not marketing. Free is the fully open path: a git repository you hold, on any host, open-source tooling, nothing of yours ever reaches an outer.bot server. Pro is the hosted convenience path: you pay $5/month for us to run the engine (delivery, compiling rules, verifying adherence) so you don't have to. Same underlying format either way, switch anytime from account settings.
What outer.bot stores: if you connect a memrepo, your project briefing, learned facts, rejections, and skills live in that repo — outer.bot's database keeps a rebuildable cache of it, not a second copy of record. If you run in database mode instead, that same content lives directly in outer.bot's database. Either way, session summaries and usage metadata (which model you called, when, and how many tokens) stay server-side.
What outer.bot does not store: request and response bodies are not persisted. The content of what you send and receive passes through, it doesn't stay.
Deleting a connected memrepo and reconnecting an empty one removes your briefing, learned facts, rejections, and skills from outer.bot's cache too. Deleting a project deletes its briefing and summaries. Deleting your account deletes everything tied to it. Full detail: privacy.html.
Teams
$5/month per person — choose the billing mode that fits your team.
Managed team
Leader creates the team, pays $5/seat/month for everyone on one card. All members share the leader's API key. Leader controls membership — remove someone and their AI access ends immediately.
Open team
Each member has their own Pro subscription at $5/month and their own API key. Collaboration features — shared projects, cross-member context, team briefings — are included in Pro at no extra charge.
How BYOK works
Bring your own API key — pay providers directly, outer.bot adds $0.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an API key to get started?
Yes — outer.bot launches BYOK-only. Add your own Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, or Together.ai key in account settings, and that provider bills you directly for usage at their published rates.
Why BYOK instead of bundled AI credits?
Your provider bills you directly for model usage; we never mark it up. $5 pays for the memory. Obie Active also cuts your actual token usage by 40–70%, so your direct costs drop automatically.
Does my key get used for anything besides my own chats?
Yes — background maintenance like compressing long conversations and extracting reusable skills from your sessions bills to your own key too, the same way your chats do. It's a small, occasional cost: typically cents per week. This never runs on a shared outer.bot key for Pro accounts, and it's tagged separately in your usage so you can see it apart from your chat spend.
What exactly is Obie?
Obie is outer.bot's AI layer that runs before and after every main AI call. Obie Active pre-filters your context so the main model only sees what's relevant. Obie Skills extracts patterns from your sessions and injects learned knowledge on future turns.
What is Fusion Mode?
Two models answer. A third keeps the best of both. Fusion dispatches your message to Claude and DeepSeek V4 Pro simultaneously, then synthesizes the strongest response. Available as an opt-in mode on Pro.
What is Tandem Engine?
A frontier model writes the plan. A fast model builds it. You approve every step. When the plan and the code disagree, an automated arbitration step verifies against your actual repo before amending the plan or asking you.
What is Field Test?
Field Test is an AI-powered user testing tool that uses a real Chromium browser to simulate how users interact with your app — navigating pages, filling forms, clicking buttons, and taking screenshots.
What's the difference between Managed and Open teams?
Managed: the team leader pays $5/seat/month for everyone and all members use the leader's API key. Open: each member has their own $5/month Pro subscription and their own API key; collaboration is included at no extra charge.
Can I cancel Pro anytime?
Yes, anytime. No lock-ins, no penalties.
Is my API key safe?
Yes. API keys are encrypted with AES-256 before storage. They are never logged, never visible in the UI after saving, and only decrypted server-side to make calls on your behalf.
Do I need to install anything?
No. outer.bot is entirely browser-based — everything happens at outer.bot/workspace. You can optionally point your local IDE at the outer.bot proxy endpoint instead.
Is there a student or educator discount?
Yes. Students and educators get 50% off Pro. Contact us at hello@outer.bot with your .edu email address.
